Hainanese Among Others

Hainanese Among Others (2021) focuses on a Hainanese family, with three generations of Hainan immigrants. Hainan, China’s southernmost island. In the last decades, many immigrants have left Hainan in search of a new life. When Lanmei was a child, her father went to Thailand to work as a laborer in order to support their family, but he never returned to Hainan. Pep lives in Thailand, where his grandfather migrated with his own father to make a living, and he has a deep sense of alienation from Hainan. Josephine, who came to Hong Kong with her father years ago, has many childhood memories of Hainan. Laura has been living and studying in Singapore since she was a child, but for her, Hainan is home, a place she cannot let go.
Statues Also Forget

Sculptures forget, and the town decays. The film Statues Also Forget (2023) explores the rise and fall of Somers Town by connecting public housing to the sculptor Gilbert Bayes’s statues. While it tracing individual memories and questioning the decay problem of this quiet community that has drowned in the chaos of the city.
